PRAYER AND FASTING
From the 29th of January till the 11th of February, we are going to have a time of prayer and fasting across City Church. Over this 14-day period we are encouraging everyone to consider fasting something and joining with us to pray. Each day we will have some guided prayers that you can join with us in praying. On Sunday 29th January and Sunday 5th February, we will have prayer meetings at the church from 7pm- 7:30pm which we invite you to join us for.
Why do we fast?
Fasting helps us disconnect from the world. It breaks our natural habits and rhythms and is a time to focus our physical body and soul upon spiritual things. By sacrificing these things, we are elevating Jesus above them and concentrating our attention on Him. Fasting is spoken about clearly in scripture in the Old and New Testament. Jesus himself fasted for 40 days in the wilderness before he began his public ministry. Fasting is not for show or rewards but is a personal time to draw near to God and concentrate on him.
Why do we pray?
Prayer is about connecting to God. In every relationship communication is key. As we posture ourselves for 2023, we want to put our focus on Jesus and draw near to him. This is a set aside time to seek Jesus and lay out our requests for the year ahead to Him in faith. As we pray, we strengthen our connection to God, and we see Gods supernatural power change things. We invite you to join along with us over this 14-day period as we fast and pray together. Let’s believe together for miracles and supernatural breakthrough as we pray in faith.Below are some guided prayers for each day you can join with your City Church family to pray. Let’s begin 2023 by seeking Jesus first. Matthew 6:33 (NLT)Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
